Velassaru Maldives is a beautiful paradise island with picture perfect lagoon, soft white sand, and crystal clear water. It is an amazing resort with five restaurants and two bars offering gourmet flavors from around the globe.
Velassaru Maldives is situated in South Malé Atoll, a 25-minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. It’s close to the main island, so you don’t have to get on another plane to reach the island. We were pleasantly greeted at the airport and escorted to the speedboat which took us to Velassaru.
Velassaru is a great escape for couples, families and those who don’t want to travel far to reach paradise. The resort has an amazing beach and water villas, great selection of restaurants, fitness center, tennis court, infinity pool with a view of the beach and ocean, spa with over ten water treatment rooms and it offers complimentary guided snorkeling tour, complimentary cruise in the morning and a complimentary sunset group yoga class. There are plenty of activities at Velassaru and there is also plenty of corners where you can relax and just enjoy the beautiful scenery.
At Velassaru Maldives you have numerous restaurants where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also offer a variety of meal plans to choose from when you book your stay. So, if you are staying more than a few days, I would recommend going with the full board plan, which gives access to all restaurants and includes alcoholic drinks.
Buffet style breakfast was served in Vela which is a large semi-outdoor restaurant with partial views of the ocean. Everything from tropical fruit, pastries, granola, eggs, meat, cheese, sushi, to International dishes were being served. Here you can also enjoy lunch and dinner, which I must say was delicious.
For the best sunset views, you must visit the Chill Bar and enjoy a few drinks while watching the beautiful sunset.
For a more private romantic dining experience, you can enjoy a few different options on the beach. We tried the dinner experience at Sand and it was amazing. The food, the views and the ocean in front of you. Perfect fairytale! We started our dinner with marinated baby octopus and seared scallops, continued with a delicious lobster and king prawns and finished our meal with chocolate fondant cake.
The resort offers many activities and the most popular are naturally water sports. You can rent snorkel gear and just walk right into the water, or you can go on a tour that will take you to various islands. The water is filled with many types of little fish, stingrays, and reef sharks. Anything is possible at Velassaru, whether you want to search for dolphins, go fishing, or escape to a private island.
There are also more romantic activities like dining on the sand or sunset cruise with authentic Maldivian ship. We tried both and we can not recommend them enough. The cruise was beautiful. We boarded a small Maldivian boat and sailed towards the sunset, while we were drinking champagne and shared canapés. It was very romantic and definitely unforgettable!
